C&C MILANO, THE ART OF COMBINING TRADITION WITH INNOVATION

Volume 3 / Sept-Dec 2010

Being an expert in Trevira fabrics C&C Milano has a passion for linen with the ability to respond to contemporary demands with modern elegance

It proposes innovative textile designs made to measure and the exclusivity of a “unique piece”. Textures and designs communicate passion beautifully rich details. It satisfies any individual demand for private residences, yachts or contract demonstrating a more traditional and handcrafted approach. It offers a symphony of colors, fabric weights, forms, structures and designs planned and made to dress the places in an elegant fashion.

The passion for linen is a family tradition at C&C Milano conveyed through the quality of the products and the innovativeness of the fabric designs.

As a result of its extensive traditions, C&C Milano is able to use highly advanced processes to produce the most exquisite fabrics without altering the natural structure of the fibers.

For its linen, C&C Milano has chosen a plant originating in Flanders that produces very long fibers, a characteristic essential for the beauty of the fabric. Another key element of C&C Milano's quality is the fact that it uses thread-dyeing rather than roll-dyeing, a process which confers more depth to the color, giving it a "three-dimensional" effect.

It has a respectful history. After four generations, C&C Milano still finds in linen those characteristics which are essential for modern needs: elegance, coolness, flexibility and resistance to wear and tear. These, in turn, enable the fabric to represent the fundamental attributes of C&C Milano: design and style.

Perennials fabrics are proof that outdoor textiles can be both rugged and beautiful. The fibers of C&C Milano are 100% solution-dyed acrylic, meaning they are so resistant to UV damage the company confidently offers a three-year warranty against fading. It has independent labs test and certify its fibers, ensuring they exceed industry standards to crucial things such as resistance to soil, mildew, tearing and abrasion.

Castellini's textile history begins with Clateo who, in the mid XIX century, joined Trombini & C, his uncle's four-generation yarn company in Melegnano of one thousand employees. He established a strong bond with his uncle from the start, so much so that he succeeded him in the business and became his heir. Clateo Castellini decided to involve his son Nico (Nicostrato after his grandfather) who would later take his place as the head of the company.

Great changes characterize Nico's business period during which the company sold the spinning plants to invest in the textile sector. Following his father's steps, in 1952, Nico purchased a share of the Braghenti & C textile company, specialized in silk twisting and weaving, with various plants and office in Como. He was later joined by his son Vittorio who, with his entrepreneurial spirit, gradually took over the management of the company. After inheriting the Ing. N. Castellini firm, Vittorio also bought out 70% of Braghenti. He involved his sons in the business; first Paulo and then Gualtiero and Emanuele. After the successful launching of a Castellini houseware line in the 1980s, designed by Cinzia Ruggeri, Castellini merged with Braghenti under the name Braghenti S.p.A.

In 1997, after many years in the Braghenti company, Emanuele together with his cousin Piero Castellini Baldissera refounded the Castellini family textile company, giving rise to C&C Milano. The first shop opened in via della Spiga, emphasizing its prestigious identity and the refined quality of its fabrics for interior decoration. The company once again celebrated linen as the highlight of its lines.

Linen is represented today by C&C Milano's bond with Michele Solbiati S.p.A. Emanuele is a member of the latter's board of directors while Vittorio Solbiati has become a partner of C&C Milano, enhancing its manufacturing strength and increasing its distribution capacity.
