On Chalkidiki’s peaceful Olive Beach, the setting sun bathes the 38,000 m2 hotel grounds in hazy red as relaxed guests have their dinner in the roof garden gourmet restaurant, enjoy a cocktail at the piano bar or take advantage of cultural highlights in the amphitheater. Around 2,000 running meters of drapilux akustik, flammstop and air fabrics, with scientifically proven properties, have been hung throughout the stylishly furnished rooms. The sound-absorbing curtains reduce noise in the busy hotel foyer, improve acoustics in the conference room and increase privacy in the restaurant. What’s more, they release less flue gas in the case of a fire. All the curtains throughout the hotel are made from an opaque dim-out fabric, offering optimum privacy and protection from the sun, as well as a simple solution for keeping out the heat of the Greek landscape.

“What’s really impressive is the curtains’ catalyst effect, which ensures fresh air in our rooms at all times,” Kontos adds. Metal salts have been incorporated into the fabrics, initiating a chemical reaction similar to that of a catalytic converter. Pollutants and odors are thus broken down and converted into harmless CO2 and water. Food odors and cigarette smoke are not only absorbed but permanently eliminated – a decisive advantage. And the fabric offers yet another benefit: the curtains do not need to be washed as frequently as conventional fabrics, thus reducing laundry costs by 50 per cent, extending the life of the curtains and protecting the environment.
