Atelier Mériguet-Carrère is specialized in the fabrication of gilt leather, undertaking both restoration projects and innovative new installations, reproducing panels based on antique designs as well as creating new ones, which has allowed the Atelier to build up one of the largest leather “archives” in the world.
Wall coverings, tapestry, binding, sheath making, leather goods: there are many varieties of application. All the skins are unique, made from a noble and living material and in the traditions of craftsmanship.
The gilded leathers are manufactured from goat, sheep or cow skins using vegetal tanning. The skins are hot-embossed using engraved metal plates, which are precise reproductions of old plates. They are gold or silver-gilded and painted by hand.
